Benefits of a N95 Respirator Face Mask
This pandemic situation has hit the whole US pretty hard. With the death toll rising by the day people are becoming more cautious than ever before.
However, with the help of correct preventive measures taken and collective efforts the Americans can defeat this pandemic. According to the guidelines of WHO people must avoid handshaking.
They must take care of their hands by washing them rigorously for at least twenty seconds with soap and water. When in public places they must cover their faces with cloth masks.
People are urged not to stock N95 respirator. These are critical personal protective equipment for health care workers who are fighting the pandemic from the front. Their safety is at optimum risk which is guarded with the help of these respirators. Hence they must be saved for those who need them the most.
Benefits of N95 mask and how does it work:
Ensures safety of health care workers:
Manufactured under the Personal Protective Technology (PPT) this protective gear is used for the safety of health care workers. NIOSH regulates the use of N95 respirators so that the workers are protected against the transmission of deadly viruses.
Provides 95% of filtration:
The biggest advantage of N95 respirator is that it blocks 95% of harmful particles. Its closed and tight fitting covers the face sufficiently blocking passage of the particles into the wearer’s body. The edges of the mask make a seal covering the nose and mouth of the wearer.
Made after going through rigorous testing procedures:
The masks are tested for a variety of performance criteria giving a superior level of protection to health care officials. These include filtration efficiency, fluid resistance, flammability and bio-compatibility.
Precautions to be taken while handling N95 respirator masks:
The masks are disposable and must be discarded carefully into the trash bin after single use. They must not be shared with others. After discarding the mask you must wash your hands thoroughly.
The masks must not be used by children below two years of age.
People who have breathing difficulties such as asthmatic patients or those suffering from cardiac illnesses might have difficulty in breathing with N95 respirator. So they must also avoid wearing these masks.
Similarly people with facial hair might face discomfort with the mask on.
Extreme care must be taken when outing on and taking off the mask. You must hold the strings of the mask from center with your one hand while putting your other hand on the inner side of the mask.
Next take the string of the mask behind your head and place the mask correctly covering your nose and mouth. The upper part must be fixed over your nose. It is important to ensure that the mask has sufficiently covered the nose and mouth.
To do that, blow hard into the mask and check for any leakages of air from any side of the mask. If the mask is damaged or soiled it must be discarded.
One thing very important to note here is that N95 respirators do provide protection against corona-virus; however they do not guarantee 100% protection against the virus.
There is a combination of personal protective equipment that you must wear in order to protect yourself against the virus. These include gowns, gloves and face shields.
However, even that cannot guarantee 100% protection against the virus. Extreme care of hygiene must be taken in order to prevent the virus as much as possible.
